Partners 2010:
Capital One Bank recently awarded the affiliate $10,000 to help with the construction of the Thomas house in Port Arthur.
The City of Beaumont awarded Habitat of Jefferson County with a HOME funds grant that will include soft construction costs toward two houses in Beaumont, and a number of downpayment assistance grants to Habitat homeowners.
Entergy Charitable Foundation provided $5,000 toward the Thomas house build in Port Arthur.
Wilton and Effie Mae Hebert Foundation donated $15,000 to help build the Thomas house in Port Arthur, joining Entergy and Capital One to make thsi dream a reality for Miranda and her children.
Meadows Foundation contributed $60,000 toward the building of two houses in the Jehovah Jireh neighborhood in Beaumont.
Partners 2009 and previous years:
Bank of America provided $20,000 toward the building of a Habitat house in the fall of 2009, helping the affiliate fulfill its pledge to help a family in need. Bank of America, which has a partnership with Habitat International at the corporate level, has helped countless Habitat affiliates throughout the country to build houses for lower income families.
Capital One Trust – Dishman Fund provided $10,000 toward the construction of a Habitat house in the fall of 2009. The Capital One group of family trusts has supported HFH of Jefferson County for years, helping us build affordable homes for needy families.
The CHRISTUS Fund provided $110,000 to assist us with salary support for our construction team in 2008-2009. The CHRISTUS Fund, a part of the CHRISTUS Health System, is committed to working with community-led partnerships in each of the communities is serves to achieve measurable, sustainable improvements in well-being. The intent of the CHRISTUS Fund is to provide resources to not-for-profit agencies and groups whose vision, mission and goals are consistent with CHRISTUS Health’s mission, values and philosophy of a healthy community.
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Disciples Home Mission's Office of Disciples Volunteering and Week of Compassion provided HFH of Jefferson County with over $250,000 since hurricane Rita devastated our area in 2005. The Disciples not only sent money, but teams of volunteers who contributed thousands of hours of work on Habitat houses over the course of three years. While we are glad that the area has not seen any new hurricanes since Ike in 2008, we miss our wonderful friends – the Disciples – who give so much of themselves to help communities impacted by natural disaster. They are a true blessing to our country!
Entergy Texas has been a strong supporter of the Jefferson County HFH for several years, having sponsored the construction of two houses in Beaumont, one in Port Arthur, and in 2004, one house in Silsbee, Texas. Entergy provided the affiliate with a $20,000 grant in the early part of 2009 that was used to help with the Rotary build in Port Arthur.
The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas provides $10,000 gap funding for houses built by HFH of Jefferson County. Through grants from the Bank over the years, our affiliate has been able to recoup all the costs associated with constructing Habitat houses.
The Golden Triangle Quilt Guild has included HFH of Jefferson County as a beneficiary of their biennial quilt auction. For several years, our affiliate has gained from this generosity on the part of the ladies of the Guild.
The Meadows Foundation has always been a strong supporter of this local Habitat affiliate, providing grants for construction, land development, and salary support. Through its most recent grant of $110,000 the Meadows Foundation helped cover salary costs for our construction staff in 2008-2009.
Newtron Inc. (through the Newton Family/Newtron Inc. Fund) provided over $30,000 toward the building of the Gary family home at 5920 Texas Ave. in Port Arthur. Newtron challenged some of its corporate partners to match the donation. As a result, BASF contributed $15,000 and TOTAL and Sabina Petrochemicals each provided another $7,500 to round out the needed funds for building the house, which was dedicated in August.
The Rotary Club of Port Arthur approached the Jefferson County affiliate with the idea of building a house in Port Arthur in 2009. Through the leadership of then President, Ike Akbari, the Rotary club raised $6,000 and encouraged member contractors to pitch in with donated services and/or materials. The resulting effort brought together many forces from within the community, including the Port Arthur News, the Port Arthur ISD, and others.
The Wachovia Foundation provided a grant in the amount of $20,000 to help with construction in 2009. The Wachovia Foundation, which will be merged with the Wells Fargo foundation next year, has been very supportive of Habitat affiliates (ours included) in the past, providing generous support of our building efforts.
Wells Fargo, through its Wells Fargo Housing Foundation, is providing $30,000 and the volunteer support of its team members to help this year’s Apostles’ Build – which is facing some challenges in the current economic climate. Work will begin on September 19th on the Grogan house at 3740 Grand Street in Beaumont.
