More than 30 faculty members began teaching assignments at Lamar University with the 2010-2011 academic year. New faculty and staff were introduced Aug. 16 at Lamar’s annual back-to-school convocation. Fall classes began Aug. 23.

As we “melt” into September this week, events slow down going into the long Labor Day weekend. Still no one wants to miss some great happenings including Swamp Pop Auction Benefit for Jerry LaCroix or the Lamar Football Banquet at the Montagne Center with Woodard, Tidwell and the whole Cardinal team. Prostate Awareness Month launches with proclamations at the Courthouse and City Council; there’s a media night for Ubi Caritas and the monthly 50% sale at the Salvation Army Thrift Store.

Labor Day recovering is slow but events pick up by Thursday with "A Salute to Real American Heroes" and John Evans (former LU quarterback) performing at Courville’s. The AMSET Gala is all games on the 10th and the Kirby Hill House Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre kicks off its season too. The end of the week offers marvelous events including the Better Business Bureau Shred It & Forget at Parkdale Mall and LU Cardinal Football! Go Big Red!
