Bridge City, the “Golden Link to the Triangle” is located on the west bank of Cow Bayou adjacent to Sabine Lake and the Neches River. Sabine lake is a 78-square mile saltwater lake opening into the Gulf of Mexico. To enter or leave Bridge City you must cross one of three historic bridges. At the south end of town is the scenic Rainbow Bridge, the south’s tallest bridge. The bridge’s 176-foot clearance height resulted from requirements that any U. S. Navy ship could pass under it. The sister span is the Veteran’s Memorial Bridge, the first cable-stayed bridge in the state of Texas. At the north end of town are double bridges crossing Cow Bayou on State Highway 87. One of which is The Cow Bayou Bridge, a flat, concrete, swing bridge that was dedicated and opened in 1941. The bridge rests on a central concrete pier and pivots at a 90 degree angle to allow watercraft to pass. It is one of two of its kind and age in the entire state. At the east entrance of town, is a smaller steel swing bridge that began operation prior to 1936, there is a 74 ft. Clearance from the water to the high lines that cross the bayou.
Bridge City is considered a “bedroom community” where residents may work in another city/county but live, pay taxes and spend most of their income in their city. Area residents find ample job opportunities in the industrial, medical, schools and government fields. Recently built correctional facilities in Jefferson County contribute significantly to the local economy. The City operates under the Council/Manager form of government and provides police, utility, library, and other basic services.
Bridge City, surrounded on three sides by water, is a paradise for fisherman, bird watchers and water sport enthusiasts. Enjoy fishing, crabbing, boating, water skiing and many other water sports on the beautiful cypress tree-lined Cow Bayou. Both fresh and saltwater fishing are just minutes away. Camera enthusiasts snap prizewinning pictures of the Monarch butterflies that stop at Bailey’s Fish Camp in October before their annual winter migration across the Gulf of Mexico. Nature trails are in abundance with marshy sites on Cow Bayou and Sabine Lake. Observe birds, alligators, native plants and mosses, and much more. Protected coastal wetlands habitat includes 5,536 acres in Lower Neches Wildlife Management.

We serve Jefferson, Hardin, and Orange counties in addition to serving young Republicans enrolled in the university systems of Southeast Texas.

Young Republicans offer a distinctive generational experience that can provide accountability and leadership inside the Republican Party and the community as a whole. We believe that individuals, when provided with sufficient and accurate information are capable of making the right choices for a better society.
Philanthropy
The Southeast Texas Young Republicans recognize and acknowledge the economic challenges many face in the United States. We believe that the most effective and empathetic way to address these concerns is by neighbors helping neighbors and by educating people to understand the access we all have to better lifestyles even in challenging circumstances. As a result, we strive to involve ourselves by working in the community to help each other and our fellow man.
Pro-Activity
The American experience provides a unique experience for ordinary citizens to participate in creating political change. Vidor Chamber of Commerce
   » http://www.vidorchamber.com/
Vidor is located in Southeast Texas at the intersection of Interstate Highway 10 and State Highway 105, six miles east of Beaumont in western Orange County. The site had heavy lumbering activities with the construction of the Texarkana and Fort Smith Railroad in 1898. Vidor was named after lumberman Charles Shelton Vidor, who acquired the Beaumont Sawmill Company and later established the Miller-Vidor Lumber Company. By 1909 the Vidor community had a post office. Four years later a company tram road was built. It was known locally as the Peach Line, and it opened thousands of acres of virgin timber to loggers. Almost all Vidor residents worked for the company. In 1924 the Miller-Vidor Lumber Company moved to Lakeview because local timber stands were depleted, but a small settlement remained, and the Miller-Vidor subdivision was laid out in 1929. Rice, cotton, and cattle were developed into important local industries. Georgetown Texas Steel announced its plans to build a new $50 million plant at Vidor in 1974, thus encouraging further growth.
With the steady growth of the Vidor community, the need arose for a plan to organize the present business layout and to continue the growth of the community by making Vidor a desirable place for new businesses to call home. The establishment of the Vidor Chamber of Commerce took place in 1955 with the goal of accepting the challenge to make Vidor a better place to do business thereby improving the community as well.

The W.H. Stark House
   » http://www.whstarkhouse.org/

The 14,000 square-foot home was built in 1894 in Orange, Texas, by William Henry Stark and his wife, Miriam M. Lutcher Stark, prominent philanthropists who occupied the home until 1936. Designed in the Queen Anne architectural style, the house features a distinctive turret, stained glass windows, and ornate woodwork in cypress and long leaf yellow pine.

Today, the three-story structure stands much as it did at the turn of the 20th century, with fifteen rooms of original family furnishings, personal effects and decorative arts, including antique rugs, original textiles, silver, cut glass, and antique porcelain. Also featured are the Stark family’s impressive collections of American Brilliant Period cut glass, pressed and pattern glass, milk glass, porcelains, and other 18th and 19th century decorative accessories. The interior of both the W.H. Stark House and its adjacent Carriage House depicts the home life of the Starks in the early 1900s and provides an extraordinary statement of Texas’ social history.

The W.H. Stark House is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and designated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark by the Texas Historical Commission. It is operated as a program of the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation, a private foundation established in 1961 by H.J. Lutcher Stark, the only surviving child of W.H. and Miriam Stark.
