KATHY CATALANO, PRESIDENT
Kathy Catalano was blown away by all of the social events in Southeast Texas when she moved to Beaumont to marry native Southeast Texan Joey Catalano in 2005.
She found herself going to multiple events on the same night and missing other events because so many events were scheduled on the same night. She missed other events that interested her because she didn’t know about them.
Her frustration climaxed in 2008 when she volunteered for the American Red Cross Hurricane party honoring Tom and Jim Broussard and learned two days before the celebration that six other fundraising parties were scheduled the same night.
As a result she started daydreaming about a mega calendar for the Golden Triangle. She wanted to offer an all-inclusive, timely, dynamic and searchable calendar. Kathy’s daydream is SETXsocialcenter.com, a place where event planners can look to avoid multiple bookings to help them maximize their party attendance and where event goers can see what’s happening in the area and what they want to attend.
SHELLY VITANZA
Native Beaumonter Shelly Vitanza cut her professional teeth in the nonprofit world where she quickly learned that “getting press” for nonprofit events and fundraisers is a constant challenge, especially for the small shop who is also trying to produce newsletters, maintain websites, databases and hold board meetings.
When Catalano broached the idea of a community calendar, Shelly immediately envisioned a place where nonprofits could get the press they need. She also brought to the table her experience as a mother.
Summer after summer after spring break and Christmas holidays, Shelly searched and compiled all the events for kiddos in the area to ensure that her son got to attend the fun things going on in the area from Vacation Bible Schools to sports camps. The task was always laborious and required a kazillon phone calls.
Kathy’s dream, SETXsocialcenter.com, would resolve Shelly’s endless calling about children’s events. In fact, it would also resolve her husband’s constant search for golf tournaments. With one click, Shelly, and mothers like her, can make plans quick with SETXsocialcenter.com.
