Habitat for Humanity and SalsaBeaumont.com brought a "muy caliente" event to Beaumont on Friday, August 28th, with the “Celebrity Salsa Dancing" at the Holiday Inn Plaza on Walden Road. Guests enjoyed the sounds of salsa music, participated in dance lessons, and cheered on the local celebrity dancers who competed in the Celebrity Salsa Dance Contest.  Enthusiastic supporters of Angie McClelland and Slate Babineaux brought the house down with their cheering, whistling, horn blowing and general revelry.  The judges could do nothing other than declare it a tie with Angie's and Slate's teams taking first.

Habitat for Humanity of Jefferson County is the sixth oldest affiliate in the Habitat for Humanity network. As an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Habitat of Jefferson County is built on the same principals as Habitat International – it is a not for profit organization whose mission is to eliminate poverty housing. Habitat strives to do this by building modest, affordable homes together with motivated partner families who cannot afford a conventional or government-backed mortgage.

Habitat partner families contribute 300 hours of sweat equity toward the building of their own and others’ homes. Once the house and the sweat equity hours are complete, the partner family purchases the house from Habitat at below cost and pays a zero-interest, twenty year mortgage to the affiliate Principle payments go into a revolving fund that helps Habitat build more houses. Therefore, a Habitat homeowner becomes a Habitat supporter!

Club Salsa / salsabeaumont.com was established in 2003 and is Beaumont’s hottest dance venue that features Salsa dance lessons followed by DJ or live Salsa bands performing the best in Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cumbias, and Latin Top 40.
